I would like to apologize for my son's behavior and writings. I do not remember much about being a father and I think that is apparent.
Stoneface, Bridge, I would like to take a few days off if that is not a problem. I think I would like to have a few days to myself.

Meet me personally and we'll talk about it. All the disappearances going on, we're a bit short handed.

Oh. You are right. I will. Where and when?

QUICKLOG
[When Stoneface read the Lotus' journal entry, he read it with a vague sense of disapproval and the odd feeling in the back of his mind that all this was probably very funny. Funnier if Wolverine hadn't disappeared and Sky hadn't lost a brother, but funny nonetheless. It was only when Samehada, a man Stoneface has noted only for his interest in large swords, had commented upon hiring seamstresses and when the foul mouthed man stepped in that it really took a turn for the worse.
Faggot. Fairy. They were said as if they were dirty words, but as far as Stoneface knew, a fag was just a cigarette and fairies were flighty little buggers with wings. That was what was bothering Youth. Probably. Well, Stoneface couldn't say he didn't disapprove, really. Books with pictures of that nature weren't things to be left around the house where a young boy could get his hands on them, and it certainly should have been addressed off journal, but Youth had been called names plenty times before and showed no sign of going so far as asking for time off. The man was dutiful, and this sort of request was rare. It worried him, which wasn't an entirely uncommon state of affairs, these days.
Stoneface shut his journal, tucked it into his pocket, and trekked over to the entrance of the bridge to Captain Planet, where he'd be meeting Youth. He didn't usually take his beat around Captain Planet, leaving it to people with noses that could smell blood past the foliage and people with stamina enough to run around the track tenfold each morning. Stoneface was neither of these things, but he'd have to do, for now.]

He didn't know for sure why the names bugged him as much as they did. They were as hurtful as 'retarded' had been. Maybe it was because they implied he should not care about Bell, that something was wrong with him for it. And that something was wrong with Bell too. Youth was naturally protective of those he cared about, so that probably added to it.
Pushing aside his own self-doubt, Youth gave Stoneface a cheerful wave in greeting, as normal.]
Hello, Stoneface! I am here. I did not know that you liked this patrol.
QUICKLOG
It's not my favorite, [he admitted.] I prefer roads.
[He jerked his head in Youth's direction, motioning him to follow him as he began to walk. It immediately calmed him; doing old beats always did. He soon settled into the copper's walk, a certain swing of the foot and tilt of the body ensuring that he could be comfortable walking all day--even on grass.]
But our beat's the entire city, so we've got to give every one a try, [he added. He allowed Youth a couple minutes of silence, to give him time to let him settle his thoughts before plunging into the topic at hand. They had all evening, anyway. There was only the sound of their footsteps and the fading racket of truly dedicated joggers as the sun began to go down. Stoneface liked the dark. It made him feel safe, even with all the shadows of the trees impeding his ability to see people at night.
When he thought that he'd give Youth time enough, he spoke.] So, Youth. Why d'you need time off? You're usually the one asking for extra shifts. [Even if you're the one with a family, an entire network of friends and a second job, he added mentally.]

Whether you get off work or not, take as much time as you need, Youth.
I can ask the man-twins or my brother if I could stay with them a few days? Would you and the kid prefer that?no subject
No. I would not prefer that.
I did not disappoint you.no subject
If you're sure.

Justice and Stoneface. And possibly others. I am not a good father.no subject
I know it doesn't mean much from me, but I'd want you as a dad. You're kind and steadfast and admirable and
You're a single, first-time parent, and you just got handed a kid in possibly the worst age-range imaginable. I don't think anyone knows what to do with a teenager. And then you have me in the house making it all worse.
You're doing fine with what you've been handed.

I do not think you have anything you need to apologise for. His heart seemed to be in the right place.

But regardless of his intentions, some things were written that should not have been. And so I should.
